NFL advanced stats: Next Gen Stats and PFR metrics
NFL Next Gen Stats since 2016 and PFR advanced stats since 2018, per player per week, plus FTN charting and snap counts. REST or MCP, 500 free credits.
EndzoneAPI serves NFL Next Gen Stats tracking metrics from 2016 and Pro Football Reference advanced stats from 2018, one row per player per week: time to throw, average air yards, completion percentage above expectation, receiver separation and cushion, rush yards over expected, plus pressures, hurries, blitzes, drops, bad throws, missed tackles and coverage yards allowed.
The box score says what happened; these say how. They sit in the same database as play-by-play since 1999, FTN's manual charting of every play since 2022 (motion, play action, box counts, blitzers) and snap counts since 2012, keyed to the same player ids, so a question like "which receivers gain separation against the blitz" is a join, not a scraping project. The table below is read from the database.

Questions
Which advanced stats are included?
Next Gen Stats passing, rushing and receiving (time to throw, air yards, CPOE, aggressiveness, separation, cushion, YAC above expectation, rush yards over expected, efficiency) and Pro Football Reference advanced passing, rushing, receiving and defense (pressures, hurries, QB hits, blitzes, drops, bad throws, yards before and after contact, broken and missed tackles, targets and yards allowed in coverage).
How far back do they go?
Next Gen Stats from 2016 and Pro Football Reference advanced stats from 2018, every week of the regular season and playoffs, updated through the current season. The table on this page is the live coverage.
Is play charting available too?
Yes. FTN's charting of every scrimmage play since 2022 (starting hash, quarterback alignment, backfield and box counts, motion, play action, screens, RPOs, blitzers and pass rushers, throwaways, contested catches, drops) comes through get_plays with include_charting. Snap counts per player per game since 2012 come from get_snap_counts.
What does it cost?
5 credits per call, up to 200 player-weeks a call. A full regular season of one source is a handful of calls. Every account starts with 500 free credits.
How do the player ids line up?
Next Gen Stats rows use the GSIS id, the same one play-by-play and weekly stats use. Pro Football Reference rows use the PFR id. search_players returns both for any player, so either source is one lookup from the rest.
Can I use it from Claude or ChatGPT?
Yes. EndzoneAPI is an MCP server as well as a REST API: add one URL to Claude, Cursor or any MCP client and ask for a player's separation or pressure rate in plain English.
What it will not do
- Next Gen Stats publishes only for players over its own volume thresholds each week, so low-snap players are often missing; week 0 on an NGS row is the season aggregate.
- Pro Football Reference advanced stats start in 2018 and are keyed by PFR player id, not GSIS.
- FTN charting starts in 2022 and covers scrimmage plays; snap counts start in 2012.
